Arcata School District, a K-8 district in California, presents on its website a Labor Acknowledgement which states that the “economic and cultural development of California and the United States was built on the backs of enslaved Africans and their descendants.” It continues: “We are indebted to the labor and sacrifice of Black People, Indigenous People, and People of Color, including Asian Americans.” The statement also recognizes that “immigrant labor, undocumented labor, trafficked and untrafficked [sic], as well as women of all races/ethnicities whose labor is not always seen and is systemically undervalued.”

The page also includes a Land Acknowledgement that states that the school district is “on unceded land of the Wiyot Tribe.”
