Jefferson County Education Association authorizes proposal for system-wide equity plan to include equity audits, anti-bias training and an equity leadership council

Incidents

On February 25th, 2021, the Jefferson County Education Association authorized a proposal in their negotiations with the school district to implement a “…system-wide racial-equity plan…” requiring equity audits for each school and bias training for the staff. Other proposals put forward include “…alternative assessments and grading practices that more accurately reflect student achievement by students of color.”

They also asked the district to create a Racial Equity Leadership Council that requires student and parent members to be “representatives of color.”

The school district website itself hosts a video that claims racism is universal in America and schools and provides links to articles explaining racism to children and the book How to be an Antiracist by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi.
