Fort Smith Schools establishes ‘Equity Action Team Plan’

In 2017, the Fort Smith Public Schools established an Equity Action Team Plan with a goal of “providing an educational opportunity for each student that focuses on fairness, inclusion and social justice.”

They define equity as “advocacy, administrative leadership and teaching conducted in a framework centered in vision and in practice on congruity relative to race, class, gender, disability, sexual orientation or identity and other historically or currently marginalizing conditions.”

On Aug. 4, 2020, the “Equity/Minority Teams Meeting,” discussed changing the name of the group to something “less clinical,” like “the Equity ‘All In’ Team” or “Education for All.”
