Buffalo Public Schools: FOIA Filed

In March 2021, Parents Defending Education filed a FOIA request with the Buffalo Public Schools. The request included all communication and documentation related to the second grade curriculum, including the reading of “The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet,” and the writing of “injustice pledge cards.” The request also included: 

  • all communication and documentation related to curriculum for fifth-grade students that includes “disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure” 
  • all communication and documentation relating to curriculum for seventh and eighth grade students titled “Think about It George Washington: The Beginnings of 273 Years of Hypocrisy in America”
  • all communication and documentation relating to the curriculum for middle school students that involves Socrates and the question “What is Justice?” 
  • all communication and documentation relating to high school curriculum titled “Confronting Whiteness in Our Classrooms,” lessons on white privilege from the Southern Poverty Law Center, and units of the New York Times’s 1619 Project
  •  all copies of relevant contracts, including costs and expenses, between 2017 and 2021 with vendors, consultants, curriculum providers, book sellers, and others in the areas
