Parents Defending Education’s Comments on the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, Department of Education, Proposed Rulemaking,“Proposed Priorities: American History and Civics Education”

Commentaries

On May 18, Nicole Neily, president of Parents Defending Education, submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Education opposing Proposed Priority 1, Projects That Incorporate Racially, Ethnically, Culturally, and Linguistically Diverse Perspectives into Teaching and Learning, 86 Fed. Reg.20348, Docket ID ED-2021-OESE-0033.

As the comments note, “By adopting tenets of Critical Race Theory and recommending the works of its most prominent advocates, the Proposal (1) greenlights racial discrimination in American public schools; and (2) virtually guarantees that American classrooms will become more politicized and divided.”

“Racial discrimination has no place in America’s classrooms – and should certainly not be incentivized with federal grant funds,” said Neily. “Students deserve to learn how to think – not what to think.”
