Defending Education Joins Other Organizations in Brief Requesting Emergency Relief From SCOTUS on “Secret Transitions” Policy in California
Lawsuits
Today, Defending Ed joined Advancing American Freedom, former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese III, and a host of other organizations in a brief supporting a request for emergency relief from the United States Supreme Court in Mirabelli v. Bonta. In the brief, Defending Education and others urged the Supreme Court to put a stop to a California secret social gender transition policy that directs teachers to deceive parents about the gender identity of their minor children.
In the case, a group of parents and teachers challenged the school district policy mandating parental deception after certain parents learned their daughter was being socially transitioned at school, and later attempted suicide.
While the federal trial court in San Diego correctly ruled for the parents and teachers and permanently enjoined the state from imposing its secret transition policy, the U.S Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit reversed, temporarily halting the trial court’s injunction and leaving families and teachers once again exposed.
As Defending Education has chronicled here, these policies are part of a growing national trend. While the Supreme Court has so far failed to weigh in on the constitutionality of these policies, it can afford to wait no longer. Defending Education remains hopeful that California parents and educators will soon secure the relief they so desperately need.
