Minnetonka High School in Minnesota appears to be facilitating race-based affinity groups for “men of color” and “women of color.” According to the school’s Student Support webpage, the groups’ mission is to “‘enrich the lives of young men and women by challenging their thinking to produce change.'”

A December 11, 2025, school board meeting states that the high school has “affinity groups for historically marginalized student populations in order to create stronger connections to the school and to increase a sense of belonging.”

Additionally, the district also acknowledges how they engage these affinity groups in order to improve involvement of students of color in district programming.

According to the “Clubs & Enrichments” webpage, the high school offers “men of color” and “women of color” affinity groups.

The “Women of Color” page states that the club is for “students from diverse cultural backgrounds” and “provides a safe space for students to share and discuss their individual experiences with peers who share a common experience of being a woman of color at MHS.”

Club goals include “recognizing and addressing challenges/complexities faced by women of color” and “celebrating diversity and culture.”

According to a February 22, 2025, article in the student newspaper Minnetonka Breezes titled “Women of Color: Community, Empowerment, Kindness,” the Women of Color group “works towards building a strong community and safe space, but it also provides women of color with ways to cope with racism and microaggressions.”

The school also offers a “Men of Color” affinity group.
