FCPS Spends Nearly $1M on Ongoing Centreville High Investigation

Incidents

Throughout August and September 2025, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) spent $980,515.14 on its ongoing investigation into a Centreville High School teacher’s allegations that staff at the school arranged and funded an abortion for a 17-year-old student without parental or guardian consent.

In an October 16, 2025 report from FCPS’ legal representation to the Education Department’s Acting Director of Student Privacy Policy Office, King & Spalding responded to a September 29, 2025 letter from the agency. While King & Spalding asserted that, based on their fact-finding, the allegations are “very likely untrue,” the investigation is still ongoing.

This expenditure by FCPS follows a May 2025 adoption of the fiscal year 2026 budget, described by Fairfax Superintendent as “the most challenging one that we have experienced in a number of years.”

In the approved budget, students will see delays in curriculum materials as well an elimination of funding for classroom monitors, among other cuts.

In the past six years, FCPS has spent over $44 million dollars on legal fees, according to a FOIA request obtained from IW Features.
