1st grade social studies curriculum teaches that “a person might feel like a boy, girl both or neither” and uses text called ‘Jacob’s New Dress’
Incidents
Lexington Public Schools sent a letter home to families and caregivers about their first grade social studies curriculum. They explain that they “start the year in social studies by learning about each other and our identities.” One of the identities they include in this curriculum for six and seven year olds and describe in the letter is “gender expression.” The district subscribes to the ideology that children get to choose if they identify as “a boy or girl or both or neither” and the accompanying text is Jacob’s New Dress.
