School district promotes ‘guidance’ for teachers when addressing January 6th, labels it ‘terroristic events’

Incidents

The Hastings-on-Hudson Union Free School District website features a page titled “Insurrection at the Capitol, “which contains a document that January 6th, 2021, were “terroristic events” in which “mob members” were “treated very differently than Black Lives Matters protesters were treated just six months ago in the same city.”

Titled “Guidance for Talking to Kids about the Pro-Trump Mob and Violence Against The US Capitol and US Democracy,” the January 6th focused document is intended to present a “framework (PEARLS) for talking to kids about terroristic events.” It provides “example language for the terroristic events of 1/6/21” such as the mob was “trying to disrupt our election and to stop the government from formally recognizing Biden’s upcoming presidency,” that President Donald Trump “in many ways encouraged this kind of violence by using his words and actions to promote challenges to the election he lost” and “this kind of language encouraged people to take the terrible actions they did today.”

The document also states that it is “important to share” with students that “mob members, who were mostly white, were treated very differently than Black Lives Matters [sic] protesters were treated just six months ago in the same city.” In continues: “Today’s violent, mostly white protesters faced less opposition and less violent treatment than BLM protesters” and “serves as a reminder of the persistent extent to which unjust, unequal, and inhumane racism continues to harm our society.”
