Belmont Public Schools Sends Kindergarten Students Home With CRT Inspired Summer Reading List

Incidents

Belmont Public Schools sent a critical race theory inspired summer reading list home with kindergarten students “to inspire discussion and learning” among families. The school district (and the public library) asserts that the books “teach about some of the history of racial injustice in our country and attempt to give messages about the advocacy and anti-racist activism we want to inspire in all our students.”

One of the books is Something Happened In Our Town—it uses language like, “Cops stick up for each other. They don’t like Black men.”

Another book on the list is Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness. Below is a picture of two of the book’s pages.
